Graphic Chic

Helsinki Inspiration by Jacqueline Davis Moranti

I was recently introduced to this amazing collection by Ivana Helsinki. It's a Finnish fashion brand designed by Paola Suhonen. The Fall/Winter 2013 collection, appropriately named The Rotterdam collection, brings forward a very Graphic nature, through pinup girls style inspiration. Paola travelled to Rotterdam(Netherlands) where she came across pictures of these gorgeous pinup girls and the inspiration struck! She wanted to capture "Winter marine magic moments," from the Rotterdam freight port.
When I first saw the collection, I didn't really see the "pinup girl" style, I was immediately drawn to the prints and the patterns. I love unique prints, they can take any plain outfit and turn it into something much more fun! I could totally see myself wearing any of her pieces, from the peter pan collared frocks, to the bulky overcoats. When you look more closely at the collection you can see the the darting and the accentuating of the hips that helps form the beauty of the pinup inspiration. I also think i'm going to take a cue from the hairstylist and try this top- knot bun look, it has a very regal feeling that i'm fawning over!

Dear readers, how do you feel about this collection, would you wear it?

PS, I recently worked on a blog post for my dear friend and fellow blogger, Chaucee Stillman of Streets and Stripes. Check out my Valentine's day ensemble's here!

Layered With Love

Is it strange that I'm more keen on wearing skirts and shorts during the fall season rather than the summer months? I just love the looks of skirts with tall socks, shorts with duster cardigans and knee high boots. Layering is the key word for fall and part of what makes fall fashion so much fun! I've put together two looks that would rock any fall season event! With these looks I really pulled for the more feminine side of myself!

This is such a summer skirt, but what fun is fashion if you don't try wearing it in your own unique ways?! This look is all about layering the paisley patterns, the graphic and the textural paisley.

Layering black pieces together can be tricky, but with the right pieces you can execute it with perfect precision! If done wrong, one can look like an extra from 'Queen of The Damned.' The black maxi skirt paired with the black peplum top make for a great faux dress! The leopard print top and booties elevate the ensemble by giving it more of an unexpected edge. The fishbone necklace is a great contrast with the leopard!
So readers, how do you like to layer your fall looks? Do you transition some of your summer pieces into the mix as well?

Old fashioned ways that won't erase

I've been listening to Little Dragon 24/7 recently. Her music is amazing, I discovered her back in the autumn of 2010 at the Gorillaz show. She was wearing an awesome sequin jacket that I have been coveting ever since! Actually she is known to dress super uniquely, i'd say Gwen Stefani meets Bjork? Anyways, you should give her music a listen, no matter what genre you favor!
So my birthday is coming up soon (eeeep!) and lately my BF has been acting strange, ducking and hiding things. I'm usually very nosey, but lately i've kind of grown out of that and just let things be. All I know is part of the birthday surprise will be revealed tonight and i'm really excited about it!
Also, my lovely buddy, Chaucee did a fantastic interview write up about me! Check it out at Streets and Stripes! She's one of my daily reads!

One of the most popular patterns to reoccur this season are stripes. Vertical or horizontal, to striped blouses and striped pants, it is definitely a mainstay! One of the funkier ways of wearing it would be to wear it vertically and horizontal or small stripes with big stripes. One of my favorite ways to wear it, is by pairing stripes of different colors. Which ever way you wear your stripes just have fun with it and try it unconventionally!

Ps: I've recently discovered this really cool site that features a lot of independent and up and coming designers called Bloggers Wardrobe. It may seem like an online look book at first, but it's a actually a community for bloggers and designers. One of my favorite brands featured on the site is Tigers of Sweden, it's very feminine with a touch of bohemia added to the mix, love it!

Print on Print

via:KentonMagazine.com

One of the trends I'm really into is the prints and patterns on top of similar prints and patterns. Prada's S/S 2012 collection is all about it too!

These are ways of how I would wear the trend. The first image displays how I would wear my stripes together. I think it works really well because the top has horizontal stripes, while the skirt has vertical stripes, it makes the pattern play together in an interesting way. The second image, uses polka dots, I like to mix patterns of the same style in different, varying sizes. It makes for a much more fun outfit! With the last image, I played with the floral pattern. I love florals, it's one of my favorite prints, probably because its organic. The floral print is one of the harder prints to mix, the wrong combination and you could end up looking like a flower power disaster.  The key is to use similar colors.
How would you wear the trend?

I found this beautiful trench from Forever21 recently, and I'm so glad I did! It's such a refreshing spin to the usual trench coat with it's polka dot pattern. Polka dots and trenches are my loves! It is the inspiration to my next photo shoot, patterns and bold colors. This look is not for the shy ones!
