T-Shirt Daze

Some days you just want to throw on a comfortable t shirt and pants because putting on anything else feels like such a hassle! It's been quite a hot and humid summer so far, and i'll admit that it's been making me a bit lazy with my warm weather dressing! One of my biggest essentials and main stay pieces for the summer is a handful of t shirts, they make getting dressed in the morning so much easier. Especially when they're quality tees!

Neutral Colorblocking and A Giveaway

Colorblocking is back, but did it ever really leave the scene? This trend has been seen on many of the recent fashion shows, Michael Kors' F/W 2013 collection being one of them. I absolutely love being able to highlight different parts of the body with the use of different colors. Light or dark, complimentary or analogous colors, hues or tints, all tell a story. I like to believe this neutral ensemble says, "I'm over you, Winter."
This trend can be relayed in other ways than a garment that is actually colorblocked, wearing pink pants and a yellow top, paired with an orange jacket is another way to incorporate the trend. It's a fun way to play with fashion! This jacket from Kembrel has a retro feel, like something out of the MadMen set.  I like to think it's because of it's collar- less nature and scalloped hem.

Remixed, Striped Dress

I'm really trying to be better about wearing pieces in my wardrobe more often. I find that months later i'll find a piece a wore once and wonder why I forgot it. With the reason being, that it may be a piece that's very specific to a certain season. This dress for instance, simple, horizontally striped, 3/4 sleeves and fitted. It's super comfy, and super thin, and because of that I tend to wear it in the warmer months. Well, I wanted to challenge that perception and save some money! And here are two of my results!

Jacket: Zara, dress: H&M, scarf: Urban Outfitters, bag: Forever21, wedges: Steve Madden

I absolutely adore the print mixing trend, I try to abide by it every day! Stripes paired with an ethnic print seemed like the perfect free spirited look for a rainy day.

Jacket and skirt: Forever21, dress: H&M, belt: thrifted, pumps: shoedazzle, satchel: Urban Outfitters

Another one of my favorite trends, the monochromatic look, shades of the same color family. This is a fun way to revamp your dresses, wearing a skirt over it, adds a new feeling to it! Blue skirt and blazer, with accents of gold felt very appropriate for an afternoon brunch.

As you have seen, the key to this thin, summery dress is layers. By adding or subtracting layers, one can turn any article of clothing into a summer or winter appropriate piece. By treating the dress as a canvas, I was able to variate the colors and prints to pair with it. Also, tights/ hosiery are your best friends through out the winter!
Dear readers, what do you think of these looks? How would you style this dress?

(Ugly) Sweater Season

Just because Christmas is over, it doesn't mean that you should put your wacky sweaters away! It's still chilly out there and you need to layer up, why not do it in a fashionably, eccentric way?! Overly printed sweaters have so much personality and because of it, many are considered ugly or unappealing. I tend to find it charming, they add a lot of va-va-voom to any outfit! Unless you have one of those sweaters with Santa Claus' face all over it! That needs to get buried in your closet right away!
Funky sweaters look great paired with anything, over a dress, under a blazer, with a vest, skinny jeans, bell bottoms... the list can go on! You could even dress it up for a holiday party!
Sweater: Forever21, blouse: J.Crew, cape: American Apparel, skirt: thrifted, pumps: Shoedazzle, necklace: Jewelmint

How do you like to wear your eccentric sweaters? Is there a cap on how weird is too weird?!

Holiday Whites

One of this season biggest trends is about breaking the rules and doing what you want to do, wear whites after Labor Day! Is it strange that I'm more apt to wearing white well after the summer months?! Usually the white pieces for the colder months are much more structured and silhouetted than the ones specifically for the summer months. Rather than linens and chiffons, there are now off- white leathers, cream silks, and beige knits! Another plus, is that these textures are much easier to clean too, which is one of the many reasons why I wear whites in the winter!

Trousers and coat: J. Crew, sweater and belt: Club Monaco, blouse: Forever21, pumps: Shoemint, jewelry: gifted, forever21, thrifted

With this look I wanted to create something cozy yet sleek! I've always considered leopard print to be a neutral, pairing it with white felt like such a
good combination. The key is to keep the white as the main attraction, keep everything else secondary.

Anyone thinking of trying the winter white trend for Christmas or NYE?

A Partridge & A Pear Tree

One way to shine bright this season is by way of funky prints! Why not try a pair of corduroys with a print relating to this holiday season, such as a partridge and a pear tree?! The moment I saw these cords, it was love at first sight! I absolutely love prints, the more unique the better! Makes for a great conversation starter and the colors allow for plenty of options for blouse choices!

Jacket: Urban Outfitters, top and pants: Club Monaco, socks: American Apparel,  wedges: Shoemint, scarf: thrifted

Wearing prints can be done for this season, just make sure that you're sticking to seasonal colors such as jewel tones, neutrals, and subdued colors. Don't be afraid to wear something other than florals on your pants. Be daring and try something new.

Unconventional Holiday Stripes

Rather than donning the usual plaid or cashmere knits, why not try some leather and some stripes?!

Top: Stylemint, skirt: thrifted, tights: American Apparel, belt & ring: Forever21, necklace: Anthropologie, wedges: Jeffrey Campbell

Try keeping the look pg-13 by keeping the leather to a minimum of one piece. You don't want to come off as a "dominatrix" especially if you'll be around family! This leather skirt was a great find, it's high waisted and it hits at mid calf. It's also very comfortable, not as stiff as other pencil leather skirts.
Add stripes with burgundy and your good to go to any festive event!

                                                                                                                     Xoxo,
                                                                                                                           Jacqui

Holiday Shimmer

I still can not believe it's the month of December already! Time sure does fly. With Christmas fast approaching, thinking about what the perfect gift to give is definitely as important as what you're going to wear that day!

Blouse and belt: Forever21, skirt: Club Monaco, socks: American Apparel, boots: Steve Madden, necklace: thrifted

This skirt from Club Monaco makes me feel festive for the holidays! It has just the right amount of shimmer that isn't too distracting. It's forgiving A- line shape and length are perfect for unwrapping gifts and putting up the Christmas tree! Skirts are one of the best options, plenty of shapes to choose from, just make sure you pick the right one for you. A- line is universally flattering. They just tend to have a very chic and feminine edge! I kept the rest of the look neutral to keep the focus on the skirt's details. Plus, a nice chunky necklace and viola!

This is just one look I'm considering. Have you thought about you want to wear for Christmas?

                                                                                         Xoxo,
