Drink Yourself To Great Skin

Illustrated by Jacqueline Davis Moranti

Most people know that drinking water is the best way to heal your mind, body and soul. Water is essential to life, even our bodies are made up of 70% water and the earth is also mostly a large body of water. Did you also know that drinking more water can also help you with your skin? I tend to drink the amount needed everyday, at least a gallon of water to keep the doctor away! As easy as it is for me to just drink straight up room temperature water, I know that not many of my friends or family can do the same. A lot of my friends tell me that drinking water gets boring and then get tempted to drink a caffeinated beverage. While most dermatologists and doctors, like Dr. Christoper Calapai D.O. the anti aging expert and long time health advisor to the New York Rangers hockey team, preach the benefits of drinking more water it might be much more exciting to reach for something else, fortunately I tried some healthy and delicious water recipes to help remind you of just how delicious water really is!

I've researched some ingredients that experts agree on for health and beauty benefits and also a delicious punch of flavor. It's as easy as chopping up the ingredients, letting them sit overnight in your water pitcher and sipping your way to healthy hydration inside and out!

Mango Ginger
The health benefits of ginger and the antioxidant power of mangoes is a surprisingly tasty mix. The vitamins in mangoes can help boost your immune system and also help aid in the production of healthy blood cells and of course maintain youthful, glowing skin! Ginger aids in lowering ones cholesterol and fighting infections.

Grapefruit Rosemary
Fun fact, rosemary was recently found to be one of the main ingredients eaten by residents of an Italian village with the highest population of people that live past 100! Rosemary is linked to improving circulation which sends blood to your brain to help with concentration and not only is it delicious but also a natural fat burner, metabolism booster and liver cleaner.

Melon Mix
Cut some chunks of watermelon, honey dew, and cantaloupe, leave them in a pitcher of water overnight to reap the benefits the next day. Melons are chock full of immense hydrating power, more hydration per cup to create collagen production for faster skin cell turnover.

Citrus Mint
Pick your favorite citrus fruits, mine happen to be lemons and oranges, cut it up into slices and add some crushed mint. By adding mint to your water you're helping to speed up your metabolism and and improve your digestive health.

Cucumber Lavender
It comes to no surprise that cucumbers help with our skin issues, even spas utilize them. Cucumbers provide you with magnesium, potassium and silicon to provide powerful detoxifiers to flush out any waste in your body. By adding crushed lavender to the mix not only provides you with a lovely aroma but also help in digestion to reduce the bad bacteria in your gut.

Pineapple Coconut Water
This mix is almost cheating! Get your favorite store bought raw coconut water and refrigerate it overnight with large chunks of pineapple. The coconut pineapple flavor is reminiscent of a delicious pina colada without all of the sugars and calories. Even though this is not pure H2O, coconut naturally contains electrolytes which plain water does not. Hydration is the name of the game, electrolytes help in rehydration faster than plain water!

You can choose to have boring water or you have fun, delicious water! Drink up and stay hydrated for beautiful skin and health. Dear readers, how do you like your water?
