Color Fusion.

Razzled, me.

Let's face it, it gets boring wearing the same clothes a lot. Shopping is always a lot of fun, but sometimes you know you really shouldn't spend more money on clothes. The only solution to that is to get creative with your closet!
Recently, I've taken some neutral pieces from my closet and paired them with some bright counterparts. It was the perfect way to liven up demure looking fabrics.

The order of the illustrated outfits are the same order of the photos.

The first outfit, is a great choice for a night out with the girls. Bright and architectural are fun GNO(Girl's Night Out) choices! It's actually a black peplum dress paired with a pink pencil skirt. I love reinventing my dresses!
The second outfit is great to run errands in and still look great while you're mailing out your bills or buying a soy latte from your favorite coffee shop. A neon maxi dress with a light, fuzzy, white top. This outfit screams for comfy, flat sandals!
The third look, is perfect for a date night. This outfit is also a dress underneath a skirt. Tangerine is one of the hottest colors of this season. Paired it with some colorful accessories to dress up the neutral skirt.
The last outfit, is also a really great choice for GNO. When it comes, to hangin' with the girls, for me anyways, I like to dress a little more sexy than I would for a date. I'd rather be more feminine than too sexy for a date, I don't want to send the wrong vibes!

Dress and skirt: Forever21, Belt: J.crew, sandals: Colin Stuart, jewelry: thrifted

I've recently worn the 3rd outfit. I truly love this pleated skirt, it makes me feel like a ballerina! Have you tried the dress and skirt combo yet?!

Zooscapades.

Jacket and necklace: thrifted, shorts: H&M, sparkly blouse: Forever21, bracelet and rings: Forever21, gifted, mask: Philly zoo gift shop

Very often, I like to take "directional" photos for my art work, It helps me to envision the end product. The illustration was brought upon a recent visit to Philadelphia Zoo, I particularly love the animals from the African continent section.  The set up in that area is beautiful and set pretty realistically to the natural setting. I've always imagine how cool it would be to see animals personified, it's the kid in me! And then this illustration was born!

                                                                                   Xoxo,

Experimental Fashion.

Dress: Forever21, Skirt: Nastygal.com, Wedges: Steve Madden via Shoemint, Jewelry: Forever21, thrifted

I'm really starting to love pairing brights with neutrals! It gives your eyes a different focus. You see the "top" i'm wearing? It's actually a maxi dress that I tucked into the skirt. It started with me wanting to wear this dress, but I really wanted some more color into the outfit, and not by adding a belt or scarf. Experimenting is key to a fun wardrobe!
The illustration conveys, my night that day. I was at the launch party, #Wearthebeach, for Duke and Winston's latest summer collection. You should definitely check it out on their website. The party was hosted at the North Shore Beach Club, it was my first time there and it definitely won't be my last! That place was gorgeous, it reminded me of a night club in Ibiza, Spain, which says a lot! A pool party combined with a club atmosphere. It was just fun all around, afterwards went out to this cafe/ restaurant with some friends and chatted about the event. Ps, wedges are a girls best friend!

                                                                                      Xoxo,

Mission Re-statement.

I've come to the realization that I haven't actually posted a mission statement for my blog, my endeavors and aspirations for this blog. I guess I just feel the need to voice myself.
My intentions for Burgundy Whispers was to showcase my fashion illustrations along with my daily outfit of the days. And ways to update and revamp clothes in our wardrobe. Well, at least the second part of that has been successful. I became daunted with the idea that I would be creating full on illustrations, everyday! I couldn't do it, I didn't have time to do it. Now, I really believe that it's something I want to work towards, maybe not everyday, but on a weekly basis, which would also mean less posts. But I'm willing to do it if it means quality over content.
Another reason for Burgundy Whispers is that, there really aren't many fashion bloggers in the Philadelphia region, I can only think of a handful. Which is sad to me because I'd love to have a meet up with fellow Philadelphian bloggers. Philadelphia being one of the nation's booming cities for the artsy and creative folk, second to New York,  one would think that there would be more fashion bloggers out there?! Don't even get me started on how non existent the digital illustration/ fashion illustration galleries there are in Philadelphia! I could write a whole post on that...
Before I get off track, Burgundy Whispers is a place for the creative soul to figure out how he/she wears his/ her wardrobe, more than once and share artistic endeavors.

Jewelry With a Punch.

One of the best ways to turn an outfit from drab to fab is through the use of accessories. Accessories have a wide array of subcategories, shoes, bags, hats, belts, and jewelry! I've recently fallen in love with an amazing jewelry line, Concrete Polish. The jewelry is completely different from the norm, it's definitely one of the most unique collections i've seen in a long while. Angela Monaco is the designer of the brand and her inspirations are minerals, crystals and metals. The pieces in the collection have a very urban, bohemia feel. It's got an untraditional, but timeless sense to it. One of my favorite pieces is the Pineapple Crystal Ring, it's so beautiful and alternative, just the way I like it! Concrete Polish just recently introduced a clothing brand to the showroom, The Radlands. It features a collaborative line by Angela's assistant/ co worker, Linda Smyth. Everything in the collection is amazing, with a ton of unique screen printed shirts, tie- dyed tanks, and cute woven wallets to replace that bulky leather one in our bags!

If you're in the Philadelphia area, check out the showroom at 716 North 3rd street, in the Northern Liberties neighborhood. If not, you can still check out the website!

I really love playing with colors, especially the ones that fall under the primaries.

Beauty Bit.

I know I don't usually talk about my beauty routine very much, because honestly it's really quite simple. I don't spend more than 15 minutes on makeup. Actually I spend more time with the night time and morning routine, cleansing and moisturizing. Which, in my opinion, the most important part. Lately I've fallen in love with a new product. I've been using for a few week now and I have noticed a difference. It's the Sugar Lip Polish by Fresh. It's a lip exfoliator that makes your smackers, baby- butt soft! I've used plenty of exfoliators in the past and even the tooth brush method, none of them have ever given me the results I have achieved with Fresh. It is made with sugar, jojoba and grapeseed oils, shea butter and vitamin e, all awesomely natural ingredients for our skin. It comes in a tiny container, but don't be fooled, a little bit really does go a long way.
Lip exfoliators are so important. After a while our lips tend to dry and crack. Imagine yourself dancing and mingling, one night, then you catch a reflection of yourself and see cracked lips under your lipstick! Not a good look. Scrubbing those dead cells away really helps improve the look of lipsticks and lip stains. Smooth and healthy lips are a great foundation for any lip makeup products. I love my lip stains, so exfoliating is a must for me! And it actually tastes sweet! Go to your local Sephora to find this bad boy.... and by no means was this post sponsored by Sephora or Fresh, just a gosh darn honest testimonial!

                                                                                                                            Jacqui

Fashion Staple

Cardigan: H&M, T-shirt and skirt: Forever21, Sandals: thrifted from Greece, Jewelry: Forever21, H&M, thrifted

One of the most unique and versatile pieces in our closets are our maxi skirts. It can also be pretty confusing, since there's so many options with it. Yes, it's a skirt and you can wear it simply the way you see it, but what's the fun in that?!
Lengthy maxi skirts are the most fun, you get to play with a lot of fabric! One of my favorite thing to do is pin different parts of the hem in different areas of the skirt, it gives off a really neat draping affect. You could also use fancy, decorative pins, such as an embellished brooch. Or you could tie one side of the skirt in a knot, it looks really cool when you put the knot in the front. Another way of wearing this trend, is by wearing the skirt with a same colored top to create the illusion of a one piece. When I wear it this way, I 'll usually throw on a wide belt to hide waist bands, plus it also looks great! One of the other way to wear a maxi skirt, is to take one part of the hem and pull it up to the waist and tuck it in. This trick looks especially great with a hi- lo maxi skirt. I know it sounds strange but you can't knock it until you try it!
I hope that these few tips have vastly helped give you different ways to wear the maxi skirt this summer. There are a ton of more ways to wear this trend, both imaginative and creative, how will you be wearing it? The next time you see a maxi skirt in one of your favorite stores, don't hesitate in getting it, you will find that you have more than one option with it.

Recently.

Lately I've been working on creating some looks, for a photoshoot that I was recently hired for. The theme for the look was fashion- forward, feminine chic. These are sketches of the final four outfit choices.
The client is a beautiful songstress, that's all I'm going to say for now! I'm really excited about this project, I can't wait for the final result!

                                                                                                             Xoxo,
                                                                                                                Jacqui

Casual Denim

Jacket: Levi's, Top: J.crew, Jeans: Pacsun, Wedges: Forever21, Jewelry: Thrifted

Yes, I do own jeans! People are always surprised when I wear jeans. A great pair of jeans are a major must have, especially for your off days! A laid back look for a chill summer day.
The floral pattern on the shoes add the perfect touch of femininity, to this otherwise tomboyish look. I pretty much always cuff my jeans and pants. When you're as short as I am, you have to find a way to abide by all of the fashion standards!
