Beauty Bit, Strobing

Illustrated by Jacqueline Davis Moranti

Remember when everyone was contouring their face? It was a 10 or even 100 step way to get your makeup to show off the angles of your face but since it was such a hassle to complete all the steps, most who tried failed miserably myself included  and just scrapped the whole ordeal. Strobing IS the much friendlier version of contouring and brings a lot of light to your face because you're actually highlighting all the way through! Since I tried to contour and failed, I thought I'd give strobing a go, and I quite enjoyed it!

When it comes to strobing, you have to make sure that your applying highlighter to the spots on your face that catch light, like the cheek bones, the eyes, the cupids bow and even the nose. Focusing on those parts of your face can enhance your features and even sculpt without the use of your contouring palette.

With any makeup look I always make sure to start off with a clean base, the CC cream from It Cosmetics and concealer from the same line. These products are literally like your skin but better! After that I use a gold based highlighter from Clarins to start off the strobing! Make sure to brush it in with a fine brush so you don't end up with streaks and lines!

Following that, I focus on the eyes by applying Laura Geller's illuminator the brow bone and iris, Marcelle's eyeshadow palette for an easy smokey eye to compliment and then Eyeko Fat Liner to line my eyes.

I'm afraid of using bronzer, it's quite easy to get out of hand with it, I lightly tap it on the back of my hand to make sure it's not too much for application. When done right it can yield awesome results! This one by It Cosmetics is one of my favorites.

Lips are my favorite part, for this look I chose to go nude! I wanted the rest of my face to be the "highlight." I started off with lining my lips with a nude taupe color from Primark's beauty line and then followed it with Laqa & Co's lip crayon. And ofcourse and can't forget the eyebrows, I brush on some Boy Brow by Glossier to top it off!

This is definitely more to my usual beauty routine, but it creates a beautiful and easy to achieve look for day and night. Strobing compared to contouring is way better and it creates a youthful, bright glow. Dear readers, have you tried to strobe your makeup yet?
