Margiela Chic

Illustrated by Jacqueline Davis Moranti

One of the best parts about the Fashion Week season is getting to see the artisanal shows. Artisanal fashion shows construct and yet deconstruct the rules of fashion. Designs that explore new found ways of tailoring and craftsmanship to create something startling and unexpected. Sure, couture fashion pieces are not wardrobe friendly because of its unconventional style, forward thinking it's one of a kind uniqueness. A girl can still dream of walking out of the house in a high fashion piece, especially if it's a Maison Martin Margiela!

Maison Martin Margiela is known for oversized proportions, refined mixes of fabrics and badges with numbers from 0-23 in the garment. This collection for Spring/ Summer '15 proves to be much more forward thinking with fuller and revealing silhouettes, a play on proportions, precise alterations and a dramatized use of sartorial rules. Piece by piece this collection portrays a new story for Margiela.

The theme for this show was Cabinet de Curiosities with lots of velvets, shells and textures. A collection sure to inspire the muses and arouse our senses amidst elusive new beauty. Truly an assortment not to be forgotten! Dear readers, I'd love to hear your thoughts on Margiela's new aesthetic.
