Skipping Into Spring

Illustrated by Jacqueline Davis Moranti

Spring has finally sprung and the terrible weather has finally ceased to exist, well not quite yet here in Philadelphia but it's getting there! It's time to put away all of those heavy layers and pull out the frilly dresses and bright colored clothing. Best part about the spring season is all of the footwear options you now have to play with! Those dirt encrusted and slushy dried sediment boots can finally be put to rest until next year... I've lived in my boots all winter long, I yearn for something different! On the radar, for footwear this season is all about flats. Heels are fantastic, nothing like a 5 inch heel to make a woman feel fabulous, but sometimes it's nice to give our feet a break. Here are a few of my favorites flat shoes for this Spring......

You might find it surprising that wearing sneakers outside of the gym is actually very fashion forward, makes it easy to run from one errand to another! And no, I'm not talking about the beloved, yet phased out sneaker wedges, gym- inspired fashion sneakers with bright colors and a low profile. They can be styled ferociously with trousers, skinny jeans, pleated skirts, funky dresses and whatever you put your mind to. Some of my favorites are Nike Free 5.0, Nike Air Max, Converse Classic Chuck Taylor, and Vans Authentic Sneaker

Slippers aren't just Cinderella or to wear whilst in the comfort of your own home, this trend has taken on to the streets! Not the boring ballet flats but the velvet slippers with the half inch heel and the pointed toe. They are extremly comfortable and look great with literally anything, my favorite way to wear them is with rolled up, boyfriend jeans. Some of my favorites are Charlotte Olyimpia, J.Crew, Ralph Lauren, and Toms Classic SlipOns

I'm sure by now, many of you know my obsession with the menswear trend, I can't get enough of the feminine and boyish charm juxtaposition! Chic, practical and totally ironic, the menswear- inspired oxfords and loafers. This shoe will never go out of style and timeless pieces are always a go to. This style looks insanely fantastic with a pair of slouchy trousers, mini skirts, tailored jackets, and i've even tried it with a body con dress! I usually like to stick with the classics on timeless pieces but this season prints and metallics are really making a scene. Some of my favorites are Madewell Keaton Oxford, Madewell Bobbie Oxford, Steve Madden and Shoemint.

There you have it, my favorite footwear pieces for this Spring. I can't wait to style my fun flats and show you how I wear them. Spring is about new beginnings, and new fashion choices. Don't forget to try out something new this season, I most certainly will be putting down my beloved heels for a more grounded look this season and also saving my feet from a lot of pain! Dear readers what do you think about the flats trend?
