Bootie Craze

Adjustment by Jacqueline Davis Moranti

It's that time of the year where we ditch the sandals and open toed shoes for a cute pair of booties! If you're not familiar with the term, "bootie," let me break it down for you. "Bootie" is just a shorter version of saying ankle boots. This season the shorter boots are making a come back, in sleek wedged styles, lace up, and chelsea boots. All of these styles mentioned look great with just about anything like skinny jeans, pleated mini skirts, oxford shirts, frocks and list goes on!
Booties make for the perfect investment piece for this season, they're comfortable and will last all season. They also can easily be transitioned into the Spring months!

Menswear Inspiration

Top: American Apparel, Trousers: Zara, Oxfords: Shoemint, Rings: thrifted
One of this season's biggest trends is the menswear inspired classics, and the biggest piece of them all is the footwear. Loafers, oxfords and boots are all getting the "borrowed from the boys" twist.
Personally, I like to play up the boyish charm of the trend, rather than contrasting it with a more feminine edge. That's exactly what I've done with these oxfords from Shoemint! These shoes require no  distractions, they're so loud and in your face, that a feminine contrast might just draw the attention away from them. The tribal print on these bad boys help anyone embrace tomboy- chic!

What do you think of the menswear inspired trend? How will you style it?

                                                     Xoxo,

Philadelphia Debuts Intermix

Located at 1718 Walnut Street, Rittenhouse Square

Television is not the only place that debuts fresh, new things to see for the Fall season, retailers set up shop on new grounds too. Philadelphia's Walnut Street welcomed a top retailer on the premises, Intermix. Intermix is a multi-brand fashion retailer that really caters to the trendy and fashion forward woman. Their approach is to really make the client feel like they're walking into a store with their "girlfriends." All of the employees are specialized in making the customer have an intimate and individualized experience. Intermix features a lot of the coveted and emerging designers like J Brand, Rag & Bone, Helmut Lang, Alexis Bittar and many more.

Before I visited the store, I'll admit it was my first time hearing about it but I did my research on it! With my research, I concluded that it would be similar to another store in the area, Joan Shepp. Joan Shepp carries a lot of great designers as well, but the feel of that store and environment is completely different than Intermix. Intermix definitely has that young adult vibe that the Philadelphia fashion scene needs! If you know anything about Philadelphia's fashion scene then you know that it's dominated by many older adult women and men, as I have experienced during Philadelphia's recent fashion week.
My first initial thought about Intermix, upon entering it was completely proven wrong. Even though it's a well established retailer, with 30 stores, nationwide, it has a quaint, little boutique feel, which to me was a major plus! All of the sections were organized by color stories and get this, the best part about Intermix is that they offer exclusive designer products, only found within Intermix stores.
I had a nice little chat with Brooke German, PR for Intermix, she filled me in about how each of the 30 stores, only carry products related to that area. New York alone has 6 Intermix stores, so to have a variety of merchandise that are only offered in certain stores keeps the customer happy and intrigued going from store to store.

Sneaker wedges are a must!

Kurt, an employee, told me about how all of the fixtures in the store are set up in a specific way, he called it, "crazy, subtle" arranging. Basically,  they take pieces that are very out there and for the dare devil fashionistas, and merchandise them next to more subtle, everyday pieces. That way the customer can pick and pair her pieces really easily. Coming from a visual merchandising background, I totally understand it!

If you're like me, a constant Shopbop.com stalker, then your very familiar with plenty of the fashion forward designers out right now. I'm so glad to find a store in my area that carries great designer brands,  that way I don't have to worry about shipping charges! Ps, they receive new merchandise everyday, sweet!
If you're in the Philadelphia area and want to splurge on a great pair of jeans, dress, boots, etc, then I recommend Intermix!

Sweater Moto- jackets are making the rage this season!

Totally in love with these Rag & Bone jeans!

Jeanius Trend

Casual Denim by Jacqueline Davis- Moranti

One of the biggest trends this season is denim, and not just your run of the mill baby blues, i'm talking about the denim evolution! These days denim is being treated with more value than ever before. This season denim jeans are having more, maybe even all the fun! Jeans are being introduced with patterns, cured with waxes, and more interesting color choices.

As much as I love my trousers, I'm totally in love with the new denim styles. Printed denim was big for the Spring season and it's still around for the Autumn season, but instead of bright, and floral prints, it's opting for darker and more abstract prints.
The tuxedo style pants have been catching a lot of eye recently! It's been increasingly popular with trousers so it was only obvious that it would catch on with jeans too. Tuxedo jeans are a great look for casual dates and Girls Night Out!
My favorite denim trend this season is the coated jean. These jeans have the nice, slick look of leather pants with out actually being leather or being super pricey. The coating can be from either fabric wax or fabric paint, what is even better is that you can easily take any pair of jeans you own and create the look yourself! Besides the black denim, one of this season's hottest colors is oxblood. The color is like burgundy, but deeper and more intense. Great color choice for Fall and looks good with almost anything!
Last but not least, corduroy. Let's be honest, did corduroy ever go anywhere?! Every Fall, corduroy comes back with a punch, like new colors, lengths, and shapes. Corduroy is so comfortable for the cooler weather and looks great dressed up or down.
This new influx of denim trends will have any fashionista ready for a "jeanius" upgrade! What denim trend are you most excited about and how will you wear it?

Philadelphia's Black Tie Affair

Last night, I attended an event called the Black Tie Affair, it was in conjunction with The Philadelphia Collection's fashion week celebrations. It was nothing short of amazing! It was a social hour mixed in with a mini fashion show, a precursor to Philadelphia's fashion shows this weekend. It was great to talk with some young and local fashion designers and looking at their work was simply inspirational!

Designers from Left- Bishme Cromartie, Closet by Cristobal, Lillie,  Faithful by Michael Thomas

All of these were by Cory Couture

I tried to get images of all the designers, but unfortunately a lot of my photos came out too blurred for posting. The top photo was right before the fashion show, the models were stoic, standing on a platform  like statues while displaying the designers garment(s). I'm especially in love with Bishme Cromartie's piece, I love metallics! The next photo was during the fashion show, highlighting Cory Couture. His work is spectacular, the draping the colors, the fabrics, so in love!

The location for this event was perfect in an outdoor setting. Since it was the first day of Autumn, the weather was nice and cool without being to hot to sweat or too cool to shiver. There was a big, beautiful fountain that changed the colors of the spotlights, right in the center. The models walked off the stage and around the fountain for their walk, it was incredible!

For this event, I made sure I looked fashionable, comfortable and most importantly like me. Love this maxi dress from Forever21, it's one of my favorite finds! It has equal doses of old school glamour, with the sweetheart neckline and modern day edge, with the all over pleating. I'm a huge fan of old Hollywood glamour!
Here are some more pictures of fashionably dressed people.

White Out.

This was my outfit for the Most Fashionable Women event. I chose to wear something simple yet fashion forward. I didn't want to wear anything too extravagant, especially since I was going to be taking photos and schmoozing! Since I was wearing white, I was extra careful not to get anything on it!

Most Fashionable Women in Philadelphia

I was recently invited to this phenomenal event, XIX Most Fashionable Women in Philadelphia, that was also part of The Philadelphia Collection. This special event recognized 19 lovely ladies in Philly. My favorite part about it was not that they were beautiful and had amazing fashion sense, but that they have contributed so much to the Philadelphia community. Among those included Pat Ciarrocchi, anchorwoman and reporter for CBS- 3, Susan Francia, Olympic gold medalist, Natalie Nixon, hat designer and anthropologist, Sarah Van Aken, designer and CEO of SA VA, a local Philadelphia boutique.
All of these women have done so much for the community, but I feel the one special lady that made an impact on me was Dana Spain. She is the founder of PAWS, Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society, which is the city's only no- kill shelter for abandoned and mistreated animals. I'm just really gung- ho about people doing what they can to help out our furry friends. I whole- heartedly believe that animals make a difference in a child's life, and unfortunately I feel that in the next 20 or so years, alot of the animals we have grown to know and love will be extinct. Dana makes sure that any rescued animal receives a lot of love and attention they need through a fostering and adoption network to help decrease the overpopulation in shelters. I believe it's a much smarter idea than to kill the poor animal because of a lack of space or resources.
It was the third annual celebration, held at The Bellevue, which had an amazing view of the skyline and ornately, decorated ceilings. Attendees included Philadelphia mayor, Michael Nutter and Nicole Miller, fashion extraordinaire and tons of Philadelphian shakers and movers!

All in all, I was super excited to attend this event and meet all of the great and creative minds of the Philadelphia region. I'm hoping that this event will help rejuvenate the creative economy of Philly and put it back on the map! Ps, Thank you Kelly Reid!

I'll have more on my outfit in the next post!

Red Zinger!

As you all may know, I'm a huge fan of trousers, all shapes and colors. This particular pair, from J.Crew is probably my favorite one, the vibrant color is a fun choice to pair with the more neutral Fall colors. I mean just imagine pairing it with a big oversized, knitted, beige sweater or a sleek brown leather jacket, with a black, faux fur vest on top? Comfort and versatility equal an A+ in my book! All of these photos were taken by my amiga, Chaucee!

Wedge Sneakers

I must share with you my love for one of my latest finds! Browsing through Nastygal one day, I came upon a pair of incredibly unique sneakers. Whoever came up with the concept of making high fashion sneakers was a genius! I know Isabel Marant brought light to this fashion trend last fall, by introducing the Bekett sneakers. I'm a short gal so whenever I can wear heels and be comfortable, I run with it! The best part is that the wedge is concealed, making it less obvious that you are wearing heels. I seriously love it! I think I need it in more colors too!

What do you gals think of this sneaker trend, love it or hate it?
