How To Fake The Wake

Illustrated by Jacqueline Davis Moranti

Admit it, you're busy. It's ok to come to that realization, we all have things to do and things we want to accomplish. Mornings are tough, from avoiding the snooze button to making sure you look somewhat well groomed, you also need to make sure you get out the door on time! Incessant Netflix Originals and Hulu Show marathons, to demanding deadlines and passion projects, it's easy to understand why morning feel like a necessary evil. Unfortunately sleeping starts to feel like a thing of the past as you get older, like an elusive product of a special club that you're not a member of. I do my best to get as much REM sleep in but alas, life gets in the way. Time is precious and that's why I've figured out how to mask the sleeplessness because no one likes to hear, "You look tired!" Here's how I wakey- wakey....

Spray on

When it comes to having a well rested complexion, one must remember to moisturize. Hydrated skin is important in keeping a glowing complexion, which is why I always carry around a face mist. A spritz can also be useful on top of makeup, my current favorite is by Glossier. This soothing face mist is made with rosewater, aloe and vitamin E all to soften, tone and hydrate your skin. You'll notice how much more awake you'll feel and look after just one spritz. Water isn't just for drinking.

Hydration

I 100% never ever leave the house without applying a moisturizer. When it comes to long nights
I go for the cream that gives me the most hydration, no amount of makeup can hide your sleepless night if you don't start off with a great base. My favorite moisturizer right now is by It Cosmetics, Confidence In A Cream. With Hylauranic acid, collagen, antioxidants, and smooth, bright skin.

Multipurpose

Nothing like a product that can be used for more than one purpose, especially when you're short on time. Let's be honest, that's most mornings! Time is of the essence and Benefit's Benetint helps me get out the door quicker by using the stain for my lips, cheeks and if I dare to go bold, I can also use it as a shadow for my eyes! It's easy application makes it possible for me to finish my makeup look done within 10 minutes.

Brighten Up

As much as I love using a moisturizer, I also love using a highlighter to fake the wake. Highlighters give the illusion of brighter eyes and dewy skin. I'm absolutely obsessed with Glossier's Haloscope highlighter, it's like a large crayon for your face! It keeps my skin moisturized and dewy with oils and a super high shine sheen that lasts all day. It's fun and easy to apply, and makes your face look like it has a glow from within!

Even if you don't get enough sleep, that doesn't mean that you cant't hide it! I love sleep and catching up to my zzz's but I also understand the importance of keeping a work ethic and paying the bills. Being able to fake the wake starts to become an essential skill as you get older and I feel like my skills have vastly improved with these products! Dear readers, how do you bounce back from a sleepless crisis?
