Date To Day

Illustrated by Jacqueline Davis Moranti

We all have those stashes of dress in our closets that we wear on special dates and events, the slim hugging, micro mini, or cut out embellished type of dresses. While beautiful and intriguing on their own, sometimes you think about stretching out the use for it because we're not always going on a hot date! I've recently experimented with a few of my slinky dresses and got a good response. Check out how I turn my date night dresses to perfectly acceptable day outfits!

I love slim body hugging black dresses, this one in particular, has an open back with some side cleavage and it contours the body through to your mid calves. Alone it may not be work appropriate but layered it'll turn heads at the office.

I paired this black dress from Nastygal with a slim fitting, long sleeved grey knit top to keep all the goodies covered up. I kept it neutral friendly with blacks, greys and whites, the patterned brogue shoes add a bit of interest and breaks up the monotone. A statement necklace also adds interest to the blank slate.

Sheath dresses are great, this dress from Clover Canyon in particular isn't too risque on it's own, but it has a Spring/Summer vibe. The challenge with this one was figuring out how to "winterize" it, without the usual tights. Good thing dark florals are on trend this season because this one fits the bill!

I paired this dress with a thick ribbed turtleneck sweater and some lace up booties to make it Winter appropriate. Add some knee high socks or sheer tights and your good to go.

This dress from Club Monaco is one of my all time favorites, it's comfortable and it shows off the legs at just the right length. Alone, it looks good, but it can be kind of boring. I layered it to give it a whole new life.

This is the ultimate, "I haven't gone to sleep in the past 24 hours and this is the dress I wore last night, but still look good," type of outfit! Body con dresses have endless possibilities. I layered it with a denim jacket and hooded cardigan to keep warm in this unseasonable weather. The wedge booties, fur trim cross body bag and tassle necklace add a fun bohemian vibe.

Most women have a two piece little black dress, the cropped short sleeve top and slim fit pencil skirt. This dress, also from Nastygal, is a basic outfit that's easy, all you do is throw it on add the shoes and accessories and your done. But say you want to revive this little number for the daytime, what do you do?

I added a long button front shirt underneath the cropped top and let it flow over the skirt. The white oxfords and printed crossbody bag add the pep in your step with this look! This one is definitely office friendly.

There you have it, a few of my tried and tested date night dresses converted into easy and fun day outfits. No need to worry about someone looking at you inappropriately or wondering if you're still partying from last night! Try these tis out and see what you can come up with, who knows you might just created more outfits than you thought you had! Dear readers, how do you revive those party dresses?
