Why I Always Wash My Makeup Off

Illustrated by Jacqueline Davis Moranti
We've all been there, you get home after a long day and all you want to do is fall into your bed. Then once your eyes start to shutter close you remember that your still wearing your day clothes and makeup! You want to get up and run to the bathroom to cleanse it off but you decide you're too tired and fall asleep. Yes, this has happened to me many times before, lately I do a good job of removing off all of my makeup before bed. Washing your face before a good night's rest is one of the most essential beauty steps of all time, one of the first beauty rules my mother ever taught me so I take it seriously!

One of the reasons to always wash your face before bed is to extend the quality of your skin. Skin gets dry and irritated by sleeping with makeup on.

I like to sleep on silk and satin pillowcases, which tend to be a pretty penny! Sleeping with a face full of makeup can ruin them and leave bacteria trails. You don't want to place your face on a dirty pillow, it's never a good consequence!

Sleeping with makeup can also cause bacteria to build up on the skin. The bacteria can cause some major blemish problems. Hello pimples!

Think about this, would you rather sleep with a face full of 20 hour old makeup or skin quenched in moisturizing vitamins and minerals?

Never sleep with false lashes on, it can potentially poke and irritate your eyes. Plus they can dry out your actual lashes and eventually make them fall out.

Our skin ages everyday, blocking it with a makeup barrier at night prevents it from getting the appropriate amount of oxygen it needs. It takes me about 2-5 minutes to wash and moisturize my skin. Ensuring that my face stays healthier longer.

This is a sponsored post in partnership with Clarisonic and Her Campus Media. All words and opinions are my own.

My night time routine is fast and effective, I start off with It Cosmetic's Bye Bye Makeup. It's like a cold cream that also hydrates the skin and provide it with anti aging serum. Leave it on for a minute then rinse it off. This is great for that stubborn eye makeup too, such as eyeliner and waterproof mascara. After that, I use my Clarisonic Mia 2 face brush and Clarisonic Deep Clean face wash to thoroughly cleanse my skin. This device gives me a gentle and adequate cleanse at home, as if I've received a professional facial at a spa. The Mia 2 also has a built in timer to remind you to move to the other parts of your face, my favorite feature. 60 seconds with this brush and your done! After washing my face, I'll occasionally put on a mask, like Clarisonic's Detox Clay Mask and leave it on for 15-30 minutes. Most nights I just focus on getting the job done. After fully removing the makeup off , I proceed to using a serum to lock in the moisture and provide a skin barrier. Lately It Cosmetic's Bye Bye Lines is my go to. And I never go to bed without an eye serum

Do yourself a favor and wash that makeup off your face, you skin will thank you in the long run! No matter how long your day was, or how tired you were, just do it. No one likes bacteria or premature wrinkles, so give your skin the oxygen it needs by sloughing it all off! Right now Clarisonic is offering 15% off your purchase with code HERCAMPUS, which is valid now through October31st.
