Old Hallows Eve

Illustrated by Jacqueline Davis Moranti

For one day of the year, anyone can dress up and act like someone or something else and get away with it. What a thrilling concept it is to wake up and fashion yourself like Marilyn Monroe, Chewbacca, or the ever so popular Harley Quinn and then to take on that character's persona. Who hasn't thought of being someone else for a day, to get the feel of what it's like to walk in their shoes? I have, it's nice to think of what this person or thing does for a full day.

While it's good and fun to put on a mask, just don't go overboard, since being you is what makes you, YOU! I've heard of stories of people truly wanting to become other characters, going through extreme measures to transform into that person, like the real life Superman or Barbie. To that I say, what's so special about being a generic pop culture icon, forever? As a child, I was obsessed with the Jungle Book, I loved the idea of a child befriending the local animals of the exotic forest. Mind you, I was about 7 years old and a major animal lover. I've spent countless Halloween nights dressed as various animals (the pictures of which are hidden away!) At the time, I really wanted to become that character, but I grew up and developed my sense of logic. Moral of the story, just be yourself! Have fun tricking or treating and have a safe Halloween!
