Snack Time

Illustrated by Jacqueline Davis Moranti

It's quite true that crucial beauty practices start from within our bodies. The saying "You are what you eat, " is a daily reminder for me when I walk past the vending machine in the office. What you put in your body is as important as what you put on it. No matter how many creams and masks you apply your skin, if you aren't taking care of your health, your efforts will be futile. Ever since I've decided to drink a gallon of water a day, my skin has been much more radiant than usual. After that, I decided to snack smarter too.

Snacks are essential to my everyday eating habits, it's like a little tease before a meal. Rather than eating something from a vending machine, I choose to eat things that will give me vibrant and glowing skin. By eating this way, it makes looking good and feeling good so much easier. The best way to have a great makeup look, is by having great skincare routine, and the best way to have great skincare is by having great eating habits. It all correlates! Eating nutrient rich foods can help you feel your best while also doing good for your health.

I'll share a few of my favorite healthy snacking alternatives with you here. My absolute favorite snack option to have on hand, almonds! Almonds provide your skin with plenty of vitamin E to get naturally glowing skin and did I mention that they're also delicious?! I like to eat almonds raw, they don't need anything extra to be eaten but occasionally I'll chop them in slices and add them to meals like chicken and rice or in salads.

Everyone knows that getting an adequate amount of Omega-3 fatty acids is important. Omegas are crucial for maintaining your skin's structure and preventing fine lines. Chia seeds are plant based and packed with your Omega-3, I love mixing it in with oatmeal and adding it into my smoothies too.

Matcha green tea powder is quite amazing and delicious too. It's packed with antioxidants and anti inflammatory attributes. I use it to make green tea lattes, green tea pancakes(goes great with the Cacao Nibs too), and protein shakes infused with matcha. Since it's in powder form, the possibilities are endless.

There you have it, a few of my healthy snack options an how I incorporate it daily. Check out this chart from Nuts.com to see how you too can achieve a healthy glow from within to make your beauty regimen a little bit easier! Dear readers, how do you snack?
