Tis the Season For Layering

Old man Winter is upon us here in Philadelphia, maybe. The temps dip below freezing one day and the next it's a mild 60 degree day, with a possibility of humidity in the mix! It's been a very confusing season so far, but I'm not complaining, as long as Winter can hold back on the snow for a few more weeks! Weather can be quite a fickle thing, and because of that working on mastering your layers can be pretty helpful. You never know what the day will bring!

It's no secret that I've adopted a pretty neutral wardrobe, blacks, whites, denims, grays and creams are most of my outfit choices with a little pop of color. Wearing black or white can seem easy because all you're doing is throwing on colors of the same family... but there really is more to it than that! Wearing one color constitutes more thought, especially from me because I want it to look fresh and effortless.

When it came to this outfit, my main focus was the tee maxi shirt/dress. I knew I wanted to wear it, but I needed to figure out a way to keep myself warm. Cropped turtle neck, leather joggers, oversized wool coat, and weather proof Chelsea boots for comfortable sight seeing was the perfect mix for this day and worked so well with the maxi tee. Layers are great because you can take one piece off and create a whole different look and they provide you with major convenience. All of the pieces in this ensemble can be worn over and over again, without anyone having a clue because of how easy they mesh with other pieces. You also can't really go wrong with black and white layers!

overcoat: Express(similar), turtleneck: Lanston, tee: Zara(similar), joggers: Urban Outfitters(similar), boots: C/O Meduse, winter accs: H&M, Uniqlo

The boots by Meduse are pretty amazing. They're made of a certain kind of plastic that make them  great for rainy days and the sole provide enough traction for anhey slippery conditions. This style in particular is called the "Jumpy" boots which make perfect sense because they're so comfortable to jump around in! Try them out on your next bad weathered day.

Dear readers, don't think that just because you're out of school, you can't develop a uniform. When I was a kid in catholic school, I dreaded the uniform but as an adult, a uniform helps you develop your personality. Minimalist and timeless pieces are the easiest routes for me and they help me with my layering skills! I'd love to know about your thoughts on developing a personal uniform and how you prefer to layer up!
