Shopping While Petite

Illustrated by Jacqueline Davis Moranti

The average adult woman's height in the United States is about 5'4" inches. Which leaves a lot of us  confused and frustrated. Most of the times petite women are only left with one option, to hem or not to hem. One of my biggest challenges as a petite woman (5'4") is finding clothes that fit me correctly. Shopping for jeans is the biggest quest of all! Well fitting clothing is essential, it helps you appear taller and thinner. Besides, you never want to let the clothes wear you!

As much as I love pants, jeans, maxi dresses and skirts, a good one is hard to come by. Everything from the sleeve length to the torso length, hem line and inseam are just never right on the first fit. The only other solution is to get it altered and then to find the right seamstress is another task! Ill fitting pants are a pet peeve of mine, which is why I take every opportunity to get the right fit. There's nothing more uncomfortable than feeling sloppy in the clothes you're wearing. I'm still on the search for the right seamstress but until that time comes, I'll stick to skinny jeans, cinched hems and midi skirts, a petite lady's best friend! That's when I discovered Sourcery by The Petite Shop.

Just like the titular name, Sourcery provides the vertically challenged women options perfect for their height. It's literally a fashion laboratory that designs with the petite lady in mind, taking account for every possible feature that could hinder the perfect fit. About half the women in the United States are about 5'4" or shorter, yet not many brands cater to the petite which is absolutely strange! Sourcery is petite friendly and allows the customer to input their measurements to get a one of a kind fit for her. What is also great about Sourcery is that it is partnered with great designers to create petite collections for the first time ever! Everything from dresses, jeans and jumpsuits.

The struggle is real ladies! I am quite excited that someone out there put the effort in creating clothes for the petite. Dear readers, do you struggle with finding petite clothing options?
