Fall's Top Denim

Illustrated by Jacqueline Davis Moranti

Every fashion addict probably has a closet full of this hot item, and most likely doesn't need a new pair, of jeans. Although, those baby blues from two seasons ago need an upgrade and this years new denim trends prove to be lust worthy for our closets. This Fall season, denim has improved to  an all new level of chic, gone are the days of your plain Jane jeans!

Put away those ripped and destructed, boyfriend jeans and pull out a clean cut pair. Boyfriend jeans with their relaxed fit and cropped inseam make wearing any shoes become the highlight of the outfit. For this season, this usually destructed style of denim takes a more tidy turn with a simple wash. And then cuffing it elevates any casual and off- duty look even more! Some of my favorite boyfriend jeans are from (click on names to see the styles!) Levis, Acne and Free People

When I think of patchwork denim jeans, I picture some 70s music festival, out in an open field. Yes, patchwork denim has a stigma of looking really retro, but lately it's been updated with a more modern edge! Unlike the jeans our grandparents wore in their time, this season the patchwork denim trend is boosted with pieces of different tones of denim and the leg is kept straight and skinny, rather than those giant bell bottoms! One of the main things to keep in mind when wearing this style, is to keep it simple, or else you can end up looking quite tacky! Pair patchwork jeans with simple tees and blouses to keep the jeans the highlight of the outfit. Some of my favorite patchwork jeans include Current/ Elliott, Hudson Jeans, and Blank NYC

Some people may not be too keen on wearing leather leggings/ pants on a normal day to day basis. No need to worry, this season coated denim is taking over! Coated jeans have the look and feel of leather, but in actuality, its just denim coated with a few layers fabric wax to give it that sheen. Also, if you're against wearing animal skins, this alternative is perfect! It has the comfort of your favorite pair of jeans but the look of that sleek leather jacket in the window at Barney's! Some of my favorite coated jeans are from Club Monaco, J Brand, Paige Denim and Current/ Elliott.

Recently the talk of the town has been about the coveted moto jacket, but the moto jeans have proven to be a rising star this season! This style takes the edgy and cool attitude of bikers and soaked them into denim by adding zippers here and there, quilting and detailed stitching. This style of jeans looks fantastic when worn with feminine like pieces to offset the hardness of the moto detail. Some of my favorite moto jeans are from Free People, True Religion, and BDG Jeans

This season make sure you stock up on the some of the coolest trends in denim. Keep in mind that even though these denim categories are on trend, they can still be timeless, it's all about how you wear it! Dear readers, what has been on your radar for denim this season?
