Tastemakers, Florence Welch

Florence Welch by Jacqueline Davis Moranti

I was in the car one day, waiting for my BF to come back from picking up out snacks for our awaited road trip to Baltimore. Naturally, I started switching the radio knob from station to station, trying to find something good or at least catchy to sing along to, when I heard this amazing voice, and the lyrics were so spot on! I had to find out who it was, immediately! Good thing for Shazam! Florence Welch, the vocalist for Florence and The Machine has a voice like none other, one that once you hear it, you know exactly who it is. Ever since hearing her on the radio that morning, I've been listening to her music non stop, and I absolutely love her collaboration with Calvin Harris. The music video for "Sweet Nothing" is what actually got me to pay attention to Welch's style. In the video she is dressed androgynously well, with a subtle mix of sexy which if you can pull that off, then you can do no wrong!

Florence's style is as unique as her voice, she dresses in tons of prints and billowing dresses. Welch describes her style as that of Ophelia meets gothic. A woman after my own heart! Much of her style inspiration comes from Stevie Nicks, which is very apparent. On stage, she's known for wearing extravagant stage dresses in which she knows how to play with while she's performing, i've yet to see her live but i'm keeping my fingers crossed for their next tour! Welch is not afraid to be herself, even after becoming wildly popular she still remains unique, and I love it! After all, as a tastemaker, you do what pleases you!
