The Creator by Jacqueline Davis Moranti |
Hey readers, in case you haven't noticed it's March, the month of women's history! In America, there's so many wonderful women that have helped mold this nation, especially in the fashion industry. For me, growing up I would sometimes watch my mother get dressed for work. The makeup, the shift dress, the pump, the pearls and ofcourse the coveted (well atleast to me it was!) J. Crew blazer. I loved it so much that I would borrow it so much, that one unfortunate day I managed to get a rip in the seams. I've since then replaced it, but that experience introduced me to the J. Crew brand! As my fascination with the brand grew, so did my research, which is how I discovered Jenna Lyons.
Jenna Lyons has been with J. Crew since 1990, as the assistant and then in 2007, she was promoted to creative director. That change is what turned an okay brand to an amazing worldwide brand! Lyons is all about mixing prints, patterns, textures and colors together no matter how strange it may look they always seem to work!

I'm always excited to recieve my J.Crew catalog every month, flipping through the pages and seeing how one color coincides with a another or how something tweed looks with denim. Truly a "Style Guide!" Since i've been such fan of the J.Crew brand most of my life, I have noticed the change in aesthetic with the merchandise, a beautiful change! All due to Lyons' work. Ever since the change, J.Crew's numbers and publicity have doubled and it has really transformed into the American brand. Even Michelle Obama swears by it!
Lyons is not afraid to bend the rules of fashion, she does what she wants and kicks a--- well you know! You don't abide by rules as a tastemaker, you make them!
